In the first half of the 19th century, the Principality of Moldavia was going through important economic, social and demographic transformations. These aspects influenced the evolution of the market towns. For this study, I chose one of these settlements, Podu Iloaiei. For a good analysis of the demographic evolution of this market town, the statistics of the first half of the 19th century play a very important role. This paper analyzes the manner in which the demographic transformations influenced the ethnic, social and economic profiles of the inhabitants of the Podu Iloaiei market town.
